Athletes With Disabilities Can Find, Join and Start Pickup Games, Find Players and Teams In Their Neighborhood!
a free online tool that helps players find, join and start pickup games and teams in their neighborhoods. The site launched on the first day of summer, offering recreational sports players the ability to use GameSnake's suite of tools during some of the busiest recreational months of the year.
Athletes with disabilities can be connected to pickup games and teams in over 80 sports including basketball, tennis, handcycling, softball, volleyball and soccer.
Athletes create an online profile, which is then used by the GameSnake system to match them with pickup games and teams in their area. Once a game is found, the player gets the game details: where and when the game will be played, how many players have joined, the desired number and skill level of players, and any fees or equipment necessary to play. If players canŐt find a matching game, they have the option of listing their own pickup game, and the system will help to fill it with matching players. GameSnake tracks sign-ups, creates printable game rosters and allows the players to communicate to each other online.
GameSnake also keeps rankings on players and game starters. Players receive a colored jersey icon next to their nicknames in the system. The jersey color for a player can change as other players leave positive or negative feedback about their performance. Game starters get their own special rankings, designated by 0-5 stars next to their nicknames. If they do a good job of getting the game listed and organized, they can receive higher rankings from players in that game.
"I am excited to see how athletes with disabilities will create a community within GameSnake," says Andrew Holland, one of the founders of the GameSnake system. "We think the available tools will make it easy for players to find each other in their own backyards, and GameSnake will encourage them to get out and play more often."
